Painting in an Industrial Age

November 10, 2017

This video was produced on the occasion of the exhibition at the Getty Making Art Concrete: Works from Argentina and Brazil in the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros. Zanna Gilbert, from the Getty Research Institute, and Pia Gottschaller, from the Getty Conservation Institute, show us how Brazilian artists such as Judith Lauand and Geraldo de Barros responded to increasing societal industrialization by experimenting with industrial paints and application methods that eliminated evidence of the painter’s hand.
