Concrete Invention: Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros. Reflections on Geometric Abstraction from Latin America and Its Legacy

This catalogue accompanied the exhibition La concreta invención. Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros [Concrete Invention. Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros] that took place at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid (January–September 2013). This show was the CPPC’s first major exhibition in Europe and traced the development of geometric abstraction in Latin America from the 1930s to the 1970s through five groupings that respond to philosophical premises about geometry and its significance: illusion, geometry, vibration, dialogue and universalism. This publication also includes an intervention by the artist José León Cerrillo.
