Evanescense of a Line: The Work as a Poetic Body and Social Line

The Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection, in collaboration with Espacio Monitor, presents the third edition of Arte en contexto, "Evanescences of a Line: The Work as a Poetic Body and Social Line," a talk between the curator Lorena González and the artist Miguel Braceli within the framework of the exhibition Miguel Braceli 1: 1.

The event will be held on Sunday, July 1 at 12:00 pm in the gallery at Espacio Monitor, located at Los Galpones in Caracas.

The talk will consist of three moments or "acts," as Lorena González calls them. During the first part there will be a brief introduction of the work by Miguel Braceli, starting from "the materials, the action and the origins of the work. Everything that is linked from the conception of architecture according to Braceli, and the action with materials as a new model of public and social interaction" according to the curator. In the second part, we will be introduced to the work of Braceli that is on view in the gallery, along with the projected videos that accompany the actions that make up his work. Finally, the curator González will reflect on the different readings of the new architectures, the ephemeral intervention of the public space, and the notions of the landscape-body as poetics of space.

Miguel Braceli recently opened his first solo exhibition in Venezuela, a set of large-format installations composed of materials used in previous actions. The arrangement of the objects in the space simulates books that contain the experience of each one of the processes in the projects carried out by Braceli that have traveled to cities in Spain, specifically in Asturias, Castilla, La Mancha, Extremadura, and Madrid, where Braceli recently has carried out the majority of his public interventions and participatory outdoor actions with inhabitants of these sites.

About Lorena González
Lorena González Inneco (Caracas, 1973) has a degree in Literature from the UCV, and is a writer, teacher, and curator of contemporary art. She is currently the curator of the Archivo Urbana in the city of Caracas. As an independent curator, she has carried out more than 70 exhibition projects in galleries, institutions, and educational environments. At various times, she has worked as a curator at the Alejandro Otero Museum, Administrator of the Mercantil Collection, curator of the Caja, Visual Research Area of the Chacao Cultural Center, and curator of the Banesco Collection. She has worked as a contributor and opinion columnist in the magazine Arte al Día Internacional, in the magazine Veintiuno, in the international magazine ART NEXUS, in the portal PRODAVINCI, and in the newspaper El Nacional. During 2014 she received the AICA 2013 Prize for the photographic exhibitions of Vasco Szinetar, Exile Body / El Ojo en Vilo, she curated in La Caja, Chacao Foundation and Sala Mendoza. Currently she is also a professor in the Contemporary Art Diploma of the Metropolitan University where she teaches the course "New Areas: Production of Art and Consumption in the Processes of the 21st Century."

About Miguel Braceli
Miguel Braceli (Valencia, 1983) is an architect by profession who graduated from the Department of Architecture and Urbanism at the Central University of Venezuela, Magna Cum Laude (2007) and earned his M.Sc. in Architectural Design (2013). He has developed an artistic practice spanning various fields that encompass land art, performance, and relational art, exhibiting in galleries, salons, biennials and significant confrontations in Venezuela, Latin America, the United States, and Europe. Most of his work has consisted of large dimension, ephemeral works in public space, and he has made interventions in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Spain, the United States, and Venezuela.

Braceli is currently a professor at the Department of Architecture and Urbanism of the Central University of Venezuela, and has led various projects in education, organization, and participation with institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York (Instameet MoMA CCS), the Embassy of the United States in Caracas (Balance), the Fine Arts Museum of Caracas (Sensory Spaces), and the Contemporary Art Diploma of the Sala Mendoza, together with the Metropolitan University, among others.

Arte en contexto is a series of meetings open to the public to discuss and debate current issues in the field of art and its trans-disciplinary connections. It aims to bring the artistic community together to foster reflection and debate on art practices in a context of production, distribution, and spaces of mediation. Through partnerships with cultural institutions, the FC/CPPC will promote dialogue and critical thinking to give visibility to art issues within their own context, while offering tools that contribute to the generation of knowledge among its attendees.
