César-Octavio Santa Cruz

César-Octavio Santa Cruz (Lima, 1981) has lived in Bordeaux, France since 2000. Here, he has pursued studies in the visual arts, earning the degree of Doctor in Arts in 2013. Likewise, he worked with the engraving and printmaking studio in the Faculty of Art at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Lima in 2006 during an academic exchange, and later in 2013 the printmaking studio of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Bilbao under the auspices of the European Doctorate. Concurrent to his university studies, he has offered courses in painting, drawing and graphic design in the School of Fine Arts in Bordeaux. Since 2002, he has participated in several group and individual exhibitions as well as colloquia, both in France and abroad. He comes from a family of artists; therefore he took on painting at a very early age. In his works, he associates pop aesthetics with the Peruvian popular imaginary, but also with other cultural universes such as European and US mass culture, dealing with topics like discrimination, global violence and consumer society. Additionally, he has specialized in screen printing for years, and he currently teaches workshops on the technique.
