Carmenza Banguera

Carmenza Banguera (1991) was born in Santiago de Cali, Colombia, where she lives and works. Banguera is a visual arts teacher at the Instituto Departamental de Bellas Artes in Cali. Her work was included in the 45th Salón Nacional de Artistas as well as many independent international exhibitions in countries including the United Arab Emirates, Argentina, the United States of America, Ecuador, and Colombia. The artist's research focuses on the Afro-Colombian and Afro-Latino identity, specifically approached from inseparable concepts such as cliché, ethnicity, race, racism and taboos such as resentment, paranoia and victimization, phenomena of a social and historical nature. Her investigation is based on observations of the context and its contemporary behavior, thus abstracting the way in which identity is assumed, showing how the ethnic-social recognition transgresses the barrier of the merely cultural. Banguera uses many formal materials, in recent years her production has been characterized by the use of techniques such as sculpture, drawing, installation and ready-made among others.
