Elías Pino Iturrieta

Elías Pino Iturrieta was born in Maracaibo (1944) and grew up in Boconó. He studied History at the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) (1966) and received his Doctorate degree in History from El Colegio de México (1969). Since then, Iturrieta has taught and researched at the UCV and the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB), institutions from which he has retired as Distinguished Professor. He was Dean of the Humanities Department at UCV; President of Fundación Celarg; Principal Member of CONAC; Director of the Instituto de Investigaciones Históricas; and Coordinator of the doctoral program in History at UCAB. He is tenured at the Academia Nacional de la Historia and is Associate Editor at the newspaper El Nacional.

Iturrieta has lectured at universities in Sevilla and Granada; Columbia; Georgetown; Bonn; El Colegio de México; El Colegio de Jalisco; Universidad de los Andes; Universidad del Zulia; and Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia.
