Lake Verea comprises Francisca Rivero-Lake (Mexico City, 1973) and Carla Verea Hernández (Mexico City, 1978). They have been living and working together as a duo in Mexico City since 2005. In 2014, they presented the exhibition Cuartos Obscuros, Barragán en Penumbra at Casa Luis Barragán in Mexico City and in 2009, (In)Seguridad, tipos de guardaespaldas en América Latina at the Museo Álvarez Bravo in Oaxaca, among others. Collectively, their work has been exhibited at the Museo de Arte de Zapopan (MAZ), México; the 13th Pingyao International Photography Festival at the Wuhan Museum, China; and the Museo Tamayo and the Museo de Arte Moderno, both in Mexico City. In 2007, they were awarded the International Photography Award from the British Journal of Photography in London and in 2013, they won the Premio Adquisición de Fotografía Latinoamericana Purificación García in Madrid, Spain.
