On Monday, November 7, 2022, join us at The Museum of Modern Art for a screening in their Modern Mondays series, which will feature our latest publication, The Power of an Idea: A Moment in Time with Alfredo Jaar and Luis Pérez-Oramas. For this evening, Chilean artist, architect, and filmmaker Alfredo Jaar joins MoMA to present the New York premiere of Between the Heavens and Me, a work filmed while Jaar was in confinement during the early days of COVID-19.

Jaar’s short film, which he describes as “an exercise in healing,” explores death, mourning, and music as a curative agent in troubled times. Slow, plaintive images of mass graveyards on Hart Island, off of the northeastern coast of the Bronx, are joined with sorrowful tunes and poetry in an attempt to process the events taking place in New York during the first year of the pandemic. 

Following the screening, Jaar will discuss other projects and The Power of an Idea with co-author, curator and art historian, Luis Pérez-Oramas. After the discussion Jaar and Pérez-Oramas will be available to sign limited copies of the physical publication.
