Ana Roldán talks about her work
Saturday, February 9, 2019Translation:
My name is Ana Roldán and I’m going to talk about my work Especímenes de un nuevo mundo. This work was originally part of my first exhibit in Bogotá, Colombia, in 2012. At that moment, I was very interested in how modernism in Latin American art and architecture had adapted itself in different cultures and had taken on new identities, become hybrid and clearly identifiable—how an idea that sought universality acquired its own identity in such an undeniable way. When I was invited to Colombia, I was also interested in topics related to colonialism, mestizaje, differences and similarities among cultures. Especímenes de un nuevo mundo is a work that, in its materiality and content, became an important part of my current way of working and inspired me to develop many other projects.
