Museo Reina Sofía Publishes New Downloadable EbookApril 28, 2015
The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS) has just released their publication Modernidad y vanguardia: rutas de intercambio entre España y Latinoamérica (1920–1970), downloadable in PDF format on their website. The 386-page publication, written in both English and Spanish, is the culmination of the symposiums Repensar los modernismos latinoamericanos: flujos y desbordamientos [Rethinking Latin American modernisms: Flows and overflows] (March 2–3, 2012) and Encuentros translatlánticos: discursos vanguardistas en España y Latinoamérics [Transatlantic encounters: Avant-garde discourses in Spain and Latin America] (July 11–13, 2013), both co-organized by the Museo Reina Sofía and the CPPC. The seminars hosted many dialogs addressing the issues of the origins of geometric abstraction, the reciprocal influences between Europe and Latin America, and the complex processes of hybridization between traditions and modernisms.
The publication features original texts by international scholars, curators, and critics, among them: Irene Herner, Ana María León, Fernando Herrero-Matoses, Michael Asbury, Cecilia Fajardo-Hill, Gabriel Pérez-Barreiro, Andrea Giunta, Harper Montgomery, and Jaime Vindel.
