G17 Centro de Arte Los Galpones
The first event for Zona de despeje will take place Thursday 24, 2019 at 4:00 p.m., at G17 Centro de Arte Los Galpones.
Zona de despeje is a series of talks and gatherings organized by Tráfico Visual with the support of allied institutions, will take place at Centro de Arte Los Galpones in Caracas. The series focuses on initiatives, movements, and new cadences that represent axes that resonate within the contemporary cultural language of Venezuela. Zona de despeje will allow for a broadening view, and a dismantling of prejudices, in approaching new art forms and cultural expressions that surround our environment and are strengthened through urban dynamics.
In this first iteration, Zona de despeje will celebrate the body through dance, specifically voguing, a style of Vogue, or voguing, as a stylized form of house dance that has its origins in the 1980’s and that “evolved from Harlem’s Ball culture from the 1960’s.” The dance was popularized by the song and music video “Vogue” (1990) by Madonna, and in the 1990 documentary Paris Is Burning (which was awarded the Grand Prize at the 1991 Sundance festival). In its current form this dance has become a global phenomenon and continues to evolve both stylistically and demographically.
Zona de despeje is made possible, in part, thanks to the support of the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros.
