Patricia Phelps de Cisneros has been honored by Her Majesty Queen Sofía of Spain for her numerous contributions to the
Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, its Sinfonietta, and the Fundación Mozarteum Venezuela, highlighting her commitment to fostering global networks of collaboration and education through art. This recognition was presented during the closing ceremony and concert for the 2023–2024 academic year of the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, held on Tuesday, June 18, at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, Spain.
Patricia Phelps de Cisneros has been a Founding Patron of the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía since 1991 and became a member of its International Circle starting in 2015. Her dedication to music education began in 1985 when she co-founded the Fundación Mozarteum Venezuela (FMV) with her late husband Gustavo Cisneros, initiating her significant contributions to the field. The FMV has enhanced music education by providing scholarships, organizing masterclasses with renowned international musicians, and facilitating international partnerships to nurture young talent. The FMV has also promoted cultural appreciation through public concerts featuring renowned orchestras, choral groups, and dance ensembles, as well as community outreach activities that made classical music accessible to a broad Venezuelan audience.
Her work with the Escuela de Música Mozarteum Caracas—created by her initiative in 2001—has enabled young musicians to refine their skills as soloists and complete their studies at prestigious institutions such as the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, the Aspen Music Festival, and the University of Vienna, among others.
Since 2015, Patricia Phelps de Cisneros has supported a collaboration between the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, facilitated by Paloma O'Shea, the president and founder of the school. This collaboration seeks to link contemporary music concerts by the Escuela Superior de Música’s Sinfonietta with the museum’s collections and temporary exhibitions. Since its inception, each year, the museum's Auditorio 400 has hosted performances that integrate music with other arts, promoting an interdisciplinary educational vision.
