Donation of Contemporary Artwork to the Pérez Art Museum Miami
The Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros (CPPC) has donated Container #5 (2020), a photograph by Dominican artist Joiri Minaya, to the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM). This donation coincided with the International Women's Committee of PAMM honoring CPPC founder, Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, at their annual October luncheon in 2023. This recognition celebrated Patricia's contributions to promoting Latin American art.
Minaya’s work prompts us to reconsider how women and nature are exoticized and depicted in both art and society. This work and series encourages a critical reflection on the persistence of colonial and gendered perceptions, inviting dialogue on how art can both reflect and resist these categorizations.
The donation of Container #5 embodies the CPPC’s shared commitment with PAMM in challenging traditional narratives and advocating for diverse perspectives in the arts, with the hope that this artwork will inspire conversations and insights about the complexities of identity, power, and visibility.
