The CPPC’s abstract modern collection has reached its fullest definition after decades of consistent growth, and now reveals a full nuanced history of the development of Geometric Abstraction in Latin America, from Joaquín Torres-García in the early twentieth century to Venezuelan kinetic art in the 1970s and beyond. This catalogue is the first extensive catalogue documenting the modern art portion of the collection.
The book is organized in two sections: the first documents the history of the CPPC through a historical account by Ariel Jiménez, a conversation between James Cuno and Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, and an essay by John Elderfield, on the relationship between the CPPC and The Museum of Modern Art, New York. The second section reproduces 175 works in color from the modern collection, organized by country and then alphabetically by artist.
