This book reviews an ideological conflict between the concepts of universality and specificity within the framework of modern Venezuelan art. The author links the "utopia" of celebrating one’s own culture and popular forms, with the "utopia" of abstract and universal art, identifying such "utopianism" as an important element in the representation of idyllic American landscapes.
