Devoción Privada. Pintura Religiosa de Pequeño Formato en Venezuela Durante el Periodo Hispánico, Siglos XVIII y XIX
This catalogue accompanied the exhibition Devoción privada, pintura religiosa de pequeño formato en Venezuela durante el período hispánico, siglos XVIII y XIX that traveled from the Museo de la ciudad de Valencia, Quinta La Isabela in Valencia (October 19 – November 30, 2003) to the Sala de exposiciones de la Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF) in Caracas (December 11, 2003 – February 20, 2004), to the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo del Zulia (MACZUL) in Maracaibo (December 2 - March 28, 2004) and culminated in the Museo de Arte Moderno Jesús Soto in Ciudad Bolívar (September 8, 2005 – January 15, 2006).
The works in the exhibition were selected to portray the artistic production in some of the most important regions of colonial Venezuela. The publication includes an overview of the work of colonial artisans and anonymous artists guided by their faith to represent their own vision of Christian iconography.
